My Story

I was born in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. In the spring of 1979, my family and I escaped our Communist-controlled country, becoming part of a group known as “boat people.” After spending 11 months in a refugee camp, we immigrated to the United States in 1980 and settled in Dallas, Texas.

[Fast forward 20+ years later]…Shortly after getting my Master’s, I accepted a job working as a Behavior Specialist in a school system on a tiny island in the North Pacific Ocean called Saipan. During my three and a half years there, I met some amazing people and experienced some amazing things. Some of the most memorable included playing beach volleyball with professional players, watching guys husk coconuts with their teeth, flying on airplanes not much bigger than a Hummer, and learning Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

While working and encouraging the CNMI students and parents to strengthen their family bonds, I was reminded about my own elderly parents living over 7,000 miles back in Dallas. In July 2007, my wife Miwa (whom I met while in Saipan) and I moved back to Dallas, Texas to be closer to our family.

In my free time, I enjoy mountain biking and am a diehard Mac user.
